CONGREGATIONAL NURTURE AND CARE CARD MINISTRY
This group continues to reach out to our members, college students, and those who may not be able to attend or have access to social media. With that in mind, we are asking for donations of any “extra” cards you may have and no longer need. There is a basket in the Narthex where you can drop any donations. Thank you for your support of this ministry!
HUMBLE HEARTS MINISTRY
We would like to thank everyone who has donated to the homeless mission. Your support means so much to so many. As the weather and season is changing, so are the needs of the ones we serve. Currently we are in need of blankets, sleeping bags, sweatshirts/hoodies (large, extra-large and 2x), jackets/coats and towels. Please refer to our flyers or the box in the hallway for the specific list of colder weather items. Thank you!
Our Youth will be sponsoring a Carwash Fundraiser on Sunday, September 26th beginning immediately after the late service until 5:00PM. This will be held at the Pavilion. They will also have hot dogs, chips and drinks available in the Pavilion. The cost is what you feel led to give for the carwash and/or food items. All funds will go to help with the cost of the Carolina Cross Connections mission trip planned for July 2022 to the Outer Banks.
The Staff Parish Relations Committee is sponsoring a Love Offering that began last Sunday, September 19, 2021, and extending for four weeks through October 10, 2021, in memory of Wayne Johnson and to help offset expenses incurred by his extended illness and loss of income.
Donations should be designated by indicating Love Offering on the subject line of your check and mailed to the church or dropped in the collection basket during Worship Services.
FALL FESTIVAL/TRICK OR TRUNK EVENT
The Children’s Ministry Committee is sponsoring this year’s Fall Festival on Sunday, October 24th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Please use the following link if you can volunteer to help in an area of the event or have a “trunk” for Trick or Trunk. To sign up go to: Fall Festival 10/24 or contact Kari Howell at email@example.com or (828) 217-0287.
UNITED METHODIST MEN
The United Methodist Men will not be meeting on Sunday, October 3rd. The next meeting will be on Sunday, November 7th at 7:00am at Butcher Boys.
ANNUAL CHURCH BBQ
The BBQ Committee has decided that the only way to safely hold a BBQ this year is to modify it in a way that we can adhere to all the safety guidelines that are known to help prevent the spread of COVID. Purchasing a smaller amount of BBQ and just selling pounds is what we feel is possible. In order to be able to successfully do this, we need to know if there are enough people who feel comfortable enough to volunteer for the jobs that would need to be done. We will evaluate the number of people who sign up on the provided sheets to make a final decision about the BBQ by October 3rd. Please sign up on the sheets located at the back of the Pavilion if you can help and in advance, THANK YOU!!
NEXT SUNDAY IN WORSHIP
During our worship services at 8:30am and 11:00am in our Pavilion, we will be invited to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion. While being faithful to the words of Christ when He said, “Do This in Remembrance of Me”, we will partake of the elements via a small, prepackaged cup and wafer as we have been doing. All are encouraged to use their own discretion at that time whether to participate. Also, anyone at home watching online on Sunday morning, are invited to notify Ann in the office if you’d like to come by the church before Sunday and pick up elements for you and your family. As a church, we are striving to be faithful, relevant, and cautious during this time and invite each of you to do the same. May God Bless you and yours and we look forward to a worship-filled time together.

Dear Church Family and Friends:
As you may have heard, last week our church became aware that several members tested positive for Covid-19. While most of these infections happened away from the church property, two instances have directly affected us here on campus. As a result, our choir remained home from worship this past Sunday and the preschool has been closed this week.
Our Administrative Board moved their regularly scheduled meeting online and discussed an appropriate response to the current situation. The positive test rate for Covid-19 in Catawba County has been around 14% or more and this community-level spread is obviously affecting our congregation (remember the goal is less than 5% positive rate). I encouraged those at our Administrative Board meeting to think through the lens of "When you can't do what you do ... Do what you can." With that in mind, we discussed several possible scenarios to reduce the possibility of virus spread at church functions. The following decisions were made for the current time and will be adjusted as soon as possible:
* Worship Services Will Be Outside at the Pavilion - We felt that it was best to keep consistent with our two worship service times at 8:30am and 11:00am. This makes more sense than trying to combine the services and concentrate more people in one place. We invite family units to bring chairs and sit in your "bubble" allowing a little distance from others. Masks are still optional for outdoor services, but I recommend wearing one for the safety of all.
* Sunday School Classes to Meet Outside - For the next few weeks, Sunday School classes will meet outside as well. Due to the nature of our classrooms and hallways, it is not possible to adequately reduce risk inside our building, but we realize the need for ongoing connections for Sunday School Classes. We recommend bringing chairs and finding a comfortable setting to make a circle and continue meeting together during the Sunday School hour.
* Wear Masks Indoors (Please Hold Meetings Outdoors as Much as Possible) - Or consider having online meetings (talk with Pastor Jonathan for assistance on setting up online meetings). We are continuing the current policy of wearing masks indoors until this current wave has lessened considerably more.
* No Indoor Meals For the Time Being - Although the Administrative Board did not vote on this as a policy item, the consensus of the group was that this high-risk activity is not advisable at the current time. Outdoor meals with a little space between participants is advised.
I am encouraged by this week's discussion of the Administrative Board. We sought to find ways to "Do what we can" as a church while recognizing that so much of church life involves the highest risk activities for airborne spread of the Covid-19 virus. This policy is only temporary, and our prayers are that we can move back indoors before the colder weather arrives.
In related news, this Sunday is the Youth Ministry Carwash outside by the Pavilion immediately following the 11:00am worship service. The Barbeque Committee is planning a smaller-scale event this year (drive-through without indoor gathering) and will be determining in the next couple of weeks whether we have enough volunteers available to make this happen. The Children's Ministry Team is planning a Trunk-or-Treat Fall Festival with all outdoor activities for Sunday, October 24th. Keep all of these activities in your prayers.
Please continue to keep connecting with anyone whom you have not seen at church activities, especially those related to your class, circle, children, youth, choir, and other groups of Mt. Pleasant UMC. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or concerns (and encouragement is always welcome!).
Grace & Peace,
