Congregational Updates on the UMC
Tuesday, June 21, 7:00pm, Christian Life Center
Over the last several weeks, we have been sharing locations and times for district discussions about the continuing United Methodist Church. Some of our members have been able to attend or are planning to attend an upcoming session. In addition, our representatives to Annual Conference this week hope to learn more details there. As is often said in news reports, “this is an ongoing story, and we will update you with new details as they become available.” We feel it is now time to offer monthly updates on these developments, create a space for loving dialog, clarify how the denominational process may impact our congregation here at Mt. Pleasant, and gather in prayer for this congregation and for all United Methodists. Doug Howard, Administrative Board Chairperson, and Pastor Jonathan will be leading this monthly dialog and invite church members to attend as you are available. Each month we will update any official information from the UMC, our Bishop or District Superintendent, and other sources to answer your questions and clarify as best we can information being shared on these topics.

FATHER’S DAY BULLETIN                                                                                                                                Our Youth are sponsoring the Father’s Day Bulletin for Sunday, June 19th. Sign-up sheets are available in the Narthex, Adult Sunday School Rooms, and Choir Room. All names should be submitted by Sunday, June 12th. The cost is $1.00/name in honor or memory. The funds raised will be used for the youths’ mission projects.
 
KEENAGERS PICNIC                                                                                                                                           All of our “Senior” folks are invited to join the Keenagers for a picnic in the Christian Life Center (please note this change) on Monday, June 13th at 11:30AM. Bring picnic foods to share. If you bring anything that cannot be eaten with your fingers, please bring   utensils for serving. Plates, napkins, forks, and bottled water with flavor packets will be provided. Feel free to bring your own beverage if you prefer.
 
ANNUAL CONFERENCE, JUNE 16-19                                                                                                         Pastor Jonathan, Brandon Cline and Belinda Worsham will be joining other representatives of the Western North Carolina Conference for the first “in-person” gathering at Lake Junaluska in two years. Please keep everyone in your prayers as they gather to not only carry out the business of the Church but to also embrace and learn from the theme, “Connect, Imagine, Engage”.
 
MOUNTAIN CREEK PARK GRAND OPENING                                                                                                 Our new Mt. Pleasant Creation Care Ministry encourages al church member to check out the grand opening of our local county park just around the corner on Little Mountain Road. Mountain Creek Park’s grand opening is June 18th beginning at 8:00AM. Our own Scout Troop 327will be presenting the flag ceremony at 9:50AM.
 
SAVE THE DATE – PASTOR APPRECIATION ICE CREAM SOCIAL                                                              The SPRC committee is inviting everyone to come out on Sunday, July 3rd at 4:00PM to show some love and appreciation for our Pastor Jonathan, Alisa, and their family. What a great way to spend Independence Day Eve, as we spend fellowship time together as a church family, enjoying each other and delicious ice cream! Please call the church office if you can bring a freezer so we have an idea of how much to expect. The SPRC will take care of all serving dishes and supplies. There will be a basket for your cards of appreciation for Pastor Jonathan. See you there!!
  
Upcoming UMC Discussion, Sunday, June 12, 2022,3 pm, St. Luke’s UMC, Hickory
What About the Continuing United Methodist Church? While no one knows exactly what the future holds, our District Superintendent (David Christy) and Conference Secretary (Kim Ingram) will be leading a discussion on the future of the United Methodist Church in Western NC. This will be a chance to hear from conference leaders what our shared future can look like and to ask questions you may have. Our focus will be on the United Methodist Church, and not on any groups or other denominations that wish to separate from the United Methodist Church. We will discuss what the future of United Methodism will look like in our Annual Conference. 
We have five counties in the Catawba Valley District and we are planning one meeting per county (See dates and locations below).

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Vacation Bible School will be June 27th—July 1st from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. We need volunteers to make this a great event. If you would like to volunteer, please go to this link, VBS 2022 Mt. We are excited to have this year’s VBS coming together for the children and volunteers.
